15.04.2008 The much-debated and disputed open document standard Office Open XML (OOXML) has been approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The result of the voting showed 24 supporting votes by participating national standards bodies allowed to vote, known as “p-members,” versus eight opposing votes.

Kurum Elbasan
03.02.2006 The Turkish Company "Kurum" closed down its operations in Elbasan, a move that resulted in the laying off of 1000 workers. The reason for the closing, according to Kurum, lies with the high price of electricity. Kurum (steel and metallurgy industry) was charged to pay 9 Lek per kW/h of electricity, while the other companies in the region pay less than half that price.

22.12.2005 The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia dismissed the initiative for ruling on constitutionality of the provision of the Law on Customer Protection which bans the retailers from charging a price for shopping bags carrying logos and brand names, since such bags shall be considered advertising material. The initiative was submitted by Kaufland Croatia chain of retail stores.
