Non-Governmental associations can have a crucial role in the process of public awareness raising about the environment. These activities are particularly important in the countries of the Southeast Europe. They provide a great opportunity in the region for two reasons: First, the majority of people in the region, especially in the poor transition countries, direct their efforts to the protection of their habitat and to sustainable management of their resources. The changes in the Rulebook on Discarded Packaging and Waste introduces a compensation fee for producers of plastic bags of 1,500 HRK per ton of produced bags, the biggest such fee compared to other types of packaging since the fee was first introduced in April of this year, reports the Alert portal.

The Pravo na grad (Right to a City) initiative and Zelena akcija (Green Action) invite the citizens to join the `Zagreb Human Wall` to defend the historic Floral Square (Cvjetni Trg) from the devastation threatened by the Hoto Group of entrepreneur Tomislav Horvatinčić, which last Thursday started the activities on the demolition of the building of the former printing press in the yard of a building located on the Square.
