The Coalition for Free Access to Information appealed to the Skupština of the Republic of Serbia (the Parliament) to not ignore the constitutional right of the citizens to start independent legislative initiatives, regardless of the will of political parties and the state institutions.

The Coalition for Free Access to Information asked the National Telecommunications Agency (RATEL) to review the contents of the Regulation that defines the new activities for internet service providers (ISPs) in Serbia who will be now obligated to keep the data on the traffic of their users and present it to the competent authorities.

We are yet to meet a local government, or local official, for that matter, who will not respond, if asked, without a moment of hesitation, that the work of the said municipality is „transparent“ and that informing the citizens is paramount. In real life, however, nothing is as clear and self-evident.

The IP Justice launched its Keep the Core Neutral campaign yesterday (June 27), aimed to protect freedom of expression and innovation in domain name policy at ICANN’s San Juan Board meeting. The campaign includes a Global Petition submitted to ICANN Board of Directors.

GONG association criticized the Report on the Implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information for 2006, discussed last Friday in the Croatian Sabor, and claims that the data it lists are incorrect and don’t correspond to the actual situation in the field.

The phone-line is part of the “Creation of System of Free Access to Information in Macedonia” project. The Director for Public Relations at the Parliament of Albania has notified the editorial offices of the private media that starting on October 11, 2006, there shall be no live broadcasts of the plenary sessions of the Parliament. The reasons for this decision was explained with the need to sign specific contracts with the private TV stations.
