Taxi Service for the disabled persons was launched in Banja Luka yesterday. The taxi service has onle mini-van vehicle available to the disabled persons in need of transportation.
Zeljko Malinovic, Secretary of Banja Luka Association of Persons with Dystrophy, said that the van, worth 35,000 KM, was purchased from donations. He added that the Association plans to buy another vehicle for the taxi service. The number of the service is 211 634, and the vehicles arrive on call from the users.
”At the moment, we employ only one driver, due to the lack of finances to hire more, so that the service is available from 7a.m. to 3p.m. every day. The taxi charges 0.8 KM per kilometre, and for intercity transport, the charge is 0.25 KM per kilometre. Having in mind that the majority of the disabled are unemployed, we insisted on the minimal charge, although the initial plans were for the service to be completely free of charge. Unfortunately, that is not possible at the moment, for we have to use the money we charge to pay for gasoline and the driver”, says Malinovic.
He emphasized that the Association needs financial assistance in order to be able to provice transportation for disabled children to school and to rehabilitation facilities in Trapiste, to take students to the faculties, employed to their jobes, and especially for transport of urgent cases, such as the ill that need to be taken to hospital.
