National Law on Higher Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The final version of the Draft-Law will be ready by the end of February of this year, after which it will be submitted to Government review procedure. If this new national Law is not passed by the Parliament by the start of the academic year 2005/2006, Hasan Muratovic, the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, will demand urgent changes in the Law on Higher Education of the Canton Sarajevo. The new Statute of the University, which is in the process of preparation, is harmonized with the Bologna Convention and the European higher education standards, but won’t be applicable until a national Law is adopted or Cantonal Law is changed. Without the new legislation, there is no legal basis for the implementation of the new Statute. The students should benefit the most from the changes in the Statute, for they will provide for improved studying conditions, will define the new principles of examination and shorten the average length of studies. It is expected that the student could enrol the University in the next academic year under the new, reformed system of higher education. |
