Srdjan Dizdarevic Again Voted for President of the B&H Helsinki Committee
The Convention also voted in the new Managing and Supervisory Boards, and adopted the Strategy of Action for the period 2005-2010. The strengthening of the rule of law, observance of international standards, education and information on human rights, as well as protection for the vulnerable categories of the population, were designated priority goals of the B&H Helsinki Committee for the next five year period. The Strategy also lists the plan to open an Office of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in the Republic of Srpska, as well as improved operations of the legal service through increased presence in the field and through specialization in the field of protection of vulnerable categories and monitoring of court trials in order to provide for the establishment of the rule of the Law. Among its activities in the past period, the HCHR in Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized the efforts to protect children rights. The children, as noted at the convention, have been prevented from realizing their basic rights as pursuant to the Convention on the Rights of Children. "Children are increasingly hit by the rising poverty in our society. They lack proper social support. They are victims of family violence, discrimination based on ethnic background, and in a number of cases they have no access to the obligatory levels of education and healthcare", Srdjan Dizdarevic said in his address to the Convention. |
