First Youth Culture Fair Held in Prijedor

The first PYAF! Fair of Youth Culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Prijedor, March 25-26. The Fair was organized by Youth Partnership Programme – POP B&H and the Manifest Urban Initiative from Prijedor.

Over 80 young artists and youth organizations’ representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the Fair, as well as representatives of the government authorities and several publishing companies from the region of former Yugoslavia.

”The Fair proceeded in perfect order. All the invitees came, we worked until late into the night both days, which is the first time somebody has stayed that late at work in Prijedor. We even had organized transportation for participants from Banja Luka and Novi Sad, so we are truly satisfied that a lot of young people visited the Fair. We believe that the meetings held under the auspices of the fair were very successful”, Dejan Dejanovic from Manifest said for OneWorld.

“We didn’t want to talk smartly at these meetings, but to provide a forum where organizations, musicians, publishers could established that important first contact. We believe that we succeeded in doing that”, Dejanovic added.

The Fair also presented an opportunity to come out with a concept to create a network of youth organizations that could work under the framework of the POP Youth Programme.

The plan is for the network to be informal in its approach. In Dejanovic’s words, the plan is not to “...create a still born network, like previous similar attempts in B&H. Too often in the past such networks existed only on paper, met a couple of times, spend some money on a couple of seminars and that’s it.”

“This”, he continues, “should be more of an informal network, something to provide an opportunity to the people to help each other in the implementation of projects, to contact the donors through POP, to secure exchange of young artists... For us, it is important to create the conditions for a concrete cooperation of youth in B&H, but also outside of the country. We are convinced that this Fair achieved that goal in terms of the contacts we initiated and facilitated”.
