Multimedia Institute – MI2

The Multimedia Institute is a non-profit organization from Zagreb, Croatia, active primarily in the field of new media culture; digital technology research/development/implementation; social activism and cultural management (networking, strategy preparation and advocacy).

History of MI2

The Multimedia Institute (MI2) was established on February 12, 1999, and the registration procedures were completed on April 13, 1999. MI2 started working as a spin-off project of the Open Society Institute, caleed Internet Programme, with the aim to continue the promotion and transfer of knowledge to the new media, communications and information technology. In accordance with these goals, MI2 educated over 600 people (by the Summer of 2003) in a wide circle of skills, from basic lectures in Internet, to complex multimedia tools.

From its founding until today, MI2 has gone through a transition process from open centre with cyber cafe to a righ place with an engaged community that produces a wide spectrum of activities. At the centre of MI2 activities lies a variety of cultural and technology projects with net.culture centre that is positioned on an attractive public location as a non-profit club and a presentation facility.

One characteristic of MI2 refers to the great expansion of programmes and personnel over a short period of time. The future activities of MI2 cover the MAMA club as a space open to the public, the MI2 lab as a production and research space, and Think Thank as project of research, cultural strategizing, consulting and advocacy.
