Comparative Analysis of GMO Legislation

The Eko-svest (Eco Awareness) environmental organizations presented its comparative analysis of GMO (genetically modified organisms) related legislation, prepared under the Macedonia – GMO Free Zone project, financially supported by Milieukontakt.

The publication contains an introduction by Zhidas Daskalovski, Expert in European Law, an analysis of three laws (draft version of the Macedonian law, the Bulgarian GMO Law and the EU Directive for Intentional Release of GMOs into the Environment).

The Genetically Modified Organisms in Macedonia? was presented by representatives of Eko-svest, Professor Daskalovski and representatives of the Ecologists’ Movement of Macedonia DEM. DEM’s analysis of the draft GMO Law of the Republic of Macedonia was included in the publication.

This publication aims to attract the attention of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning to the need to further elaborate the existing draft with by-laws and annexes. It also aims to inform the Government about the need to adopt the Law as soon as possible and start its implementation in order to protect the biodiversity in Macedonia.
