Travel to Europe Competition
The European Movement in Serbia opens a public competition for the “Travel to Europe” project, which will enable 200 students from Serbia to get free of charge Schengen Visas to travel to EU countries, as well as free inter-rail traing tickets covering one-month of travel.
The priority will be given, according the EMinS, to the candidates that haven’t traveled abroad before, or those that don’t even hold a valid passport. The winners will start for Vienna on July 18, by bus, and then proceed, on their own choice, by train to any of the countries of EU covered by the Schengen Visa Regime. Ksenija Milivojevic, the EMinS Secretary General, said that the Belgrade City Council will cover the inter-rail tickets. The free Schengen Visas will be issued by the Austrian Embassy. She emphasized that the project aims to introduce the youth from Serbia to the standards prevailing in EU, as well as to the reasons why it is important for Serbia to join EU. "It is a sad fact that the easiest criteria to fulfill is the requirement for the candidates to have not traveled abroad, having in mind the statistics that 70 percent of the students never left Serbia” said Milivojevic. Gerhards Jandel, the Austrian Ambassador to Serbia, emphasized the importance of the possibility for Serbian students to travel to the EU countries, thus expanding their horizons and knowledge about the EU. Radmila Hrustanovic, the Deputy Mayor of Belgrade, said the the Belgrade City Council will ear-mark six million Dinars for Inter-rail tickets as its contribution to the project. The project will be implemented by EMinS, European Initiatives, Austrian Embassy and the Belgrade City Council. The financial support will be provided by Belgrade City Council, the Balkan Trust Fund, MGI, Serbian Railways, Serbian Postal Service, “Dunav Osiguranje” insurance company, “Kontiki Travel” and “Lasta”.
