Financing Independent and Youth Culture from Local Budgets
Last Thursday, October 26, 2006, the ACT association organized a public debate in Cakovec, to discuss the financing of independent and youth culture from local and regional budgets. This was the second of a series of debates implemented by ACT under Clubture’s “Kultura aktiva” project.
Blazenka Novak, the Head of the Department of Social Activities of Medjimurje County; Romano Bognad from Cakovec Municipal Administration; and Emina Vicnic from Clubture provided the opening remarks on the treatment of independent and youth culture organizations by the local self-governments and the finances earmarked for independent and youth culture programmes.
The debate, which lasted for almost three hours, discussed many other related issues: the work of the Cultural Council of Medjimurje County; Cakovec Cultural Development Strategy; procedures and criteria for co-financing of project proposals...
Romano Bogdan također mentioned the burning issue of lack of proper space for youth activities and said that some sort of centre should be established over the coming five years, to provide the youth with space for their activities. These and many other issues will be discussed at the next debate “Our Daily Space”, scheduled to take place at ACT offices on November 17.
Branko Salamon, the Mayor of Cakovec, Jurica Cesar from the County Cultural Council, Sandra Henman and Suncana Glavina from County Administration (the former charged with culture association and tourism, the latter charged with EU integrations, economy and youth) and representatives of associations also took active participation in the debate.
