New anti-corruption NGO, Zero Corruption, was established in Macedonia. Although the organization is not member of Transparency International at this moment, it will invest all efforts to take its place in that great international network, having in mind, according to the President of Zero Corruption Meto Jovanovski, the “...TI membership ought to be deserved”.

Zero Corruption is the new anti-corruption NGO in Macedonia.

Zero Corruption demanded from the Government and the Sobranie (the Parliament) of RM, on the occasion of December 9, the International Day of Fight Against Corruption, to establish a system of zero-tolerance for corruption in the country, which they would prove with the ratification of the UN Convention for Fight against Corruption (also known as the Merida Convention), which Macedonia has not ratified yet.
On the other hand, the Declaration for zero tolerance was signed by the President of the Republic, the Vice-President of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, by leaders of political parties, chambers of commerce, representatives of the NGO sectors and other stake-holders from Macedonian public and political life.
Zero Corruption announced its programming activities, including the efforts to introduce anti-corruption programmes in elementary school syllabi; development of ethical code for the corporate sector; monitoring of implementation of anti-corruption programmes and strategies, as well as measures for prevention and control of possibilities for corruption in the media.
Zero Corruption believes that its establishment will put an end to the story surrounding the disputes in the anti-corruption movement in Macedonia, which resulted in the fierce conflict inside the leadership of Transparency Macedonia and, ultimately, to the fact that it lost its status of member of Transparency International. According to Jovanovski, that organization belongs to the past and the procedure for its termination should end any day now.
Zero Corruption expressed its support for all Government’s and institutional efforts in the fight against crime and corruption, which needs to be uncompromising and non-selective, but should be accompanied by full respect for human rights, the Constitution and the law.
