Consumer Association Presents Election Demands

The Serbian Consumer Association (APOS) announced the election demands of Serbian consumers, prior to the Parliamentary Elections, scheduled for January 21, 2007. APOS aims to promote and improve consumer rights during election campaign.

APOS demands from the next Government and Members of Parliament to secure special bodies for protection of consumer rights, so that the citizens would know whom to address in cases of violations on municipal, provincial and national level.

The second demand is from the state to secure that the consumers’ opinions are heard, i.e. the consumers should be aware that their rights and interests are taken into consideration in the decision-making processes.

Finally, the future institutions will have to provide the conditions for the proper functioning of the consumer associations and organizations, so that consumers will know who represents their interests, where and how.

The aim of the public release of the demands was to remind the consumers that they can ascertain their rights as voters and to obligate the political parties running in the elections to present publicly their views and intentions regarding potential policies for protection of consumer rights in Serbia.
