Croatia to Adopt a Law to Confirm the Ratification of Kyoto Protocol

At its session of April 4, 2007, the Government of Croatia adopted the draft-Law on Confirmation of Kyoto Protocols to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The draft was prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Spatial Planning and Construction. The Kyoto Protokol will enter into force 90 days from the day the ratification documentation is submitted to the Protocol Depositary, the UN Secretary General. Croatia ratified UNFCCC in 1996, with a decision on ratification adopted by the Sabor, as an Annex I Party. According to UNFCCC, Annex I Parties (40 developed and transition countries) are obligated to maintain the green-house gasses emissions at the 1990 levels (the base year) by the end of 2000. They also have greater obligations regarding measures for reduction of green-house gasses emissions, as well as reporting on implementation of measures and annual reporting.
