New CSRC Publication on Macedonian Cases at ECHR

On the tenth anniversary of the ratification of the European Human Rights Convention by the Republic of Macedonia, and the tenth anniversary of the Civil Society Research Centre (CSRC), the Centre published its latest publication Cases Versus Macedonia at the European Court of Human Rights, 2002-2006.

This book is a continuation of a previous publication, Influence of European Human Rights Convention on National Legislation and Cases Against Macedonia at the ECHR, 1998-2001, published in 2001. The new publication takes comprehensive approach to this topic and covers this issue during the past five years.

Under its activities to mark April 10, 1997, the day of the ratification of the European Convention, CSRC will distribute the publication to all segments of the judicial system in the country, as well as to those people and institutions that deal with this topic and issue in their everyday work. CSRC will also redistribute its past books in this field, hoping that they would contribute to the development of rule of law in Macedonia.

“We want to emphasize the fact that, ten years after the ratification of the European Human Rights Convention, which became a part of the national legislation, its implementation in Macedonia is far from satisfactory”, says CSRC in a public statement.

In their view, the Convention is not applied directly in court procedures, nor is the precedent law of the European Court of Human Rights used as source of national law, which retards all efforts and attempts for appropriate implementation of Macedonian laws and the Constitution.

CSRC hopes that this new publication will provide another urge for a comprehensive reform of the system and institutions working to implement the rule of law principle.
