2007 Queer Zagreb Festival Started
Last night, the fifth Queer Zagreb festival started with the play "Oedipus in Corinth" directed by Ivica Buljan. The Festival will last for six days and this years edition will deal with the topic of "Balkans Queer".
The Queer Zagreb Festival, announces a film special, a review of gay/queer motives in films of ex-Yugoslav cinematography, selected by film critic Nenad Polimac. Six films, some of them already with cult followings (Zelimir Zilnik, Jakov Sedlar), some never seen in Croatia before (films such as “Breathe Deeply” and “Waking from the Dead” will have its premiere on Queer Zagreb), offer the chance to witness the continuing presence of gay issues on film-tape, therefore, the continuous existence of gay identities in these parts of the world. Nenad Polimac himself will give a lecture on “Gay Motives in the Cinematography of Former Yugoslavia and the Region”.
The Festival programme also offers modern dancing, theatrical plays, performances and other artistic contents, not restricted to performing arts. One of the stars of the Festival is surely the French choreographer Jerome Bel and his latest show "Pichet Klunchun and myself".
The organizers also emphasize the appearance of young Bulgarina artist Ivo Dimchev, one of the most interesting people on the artistic scene in Eastern Europe. Pravdan Devlahovic and Dragana Alfirevic work on the (in)ability to uncover one’s body on stage, while Matija Ferlin, guest-dancer with Sasha Waltz, will present his first independent project, the intimate composition “Alone Now”.
At the very end of the festival H.C. Zabludovski, a.k.a. Zeljko Zorica- Shish, will uncover a memorial plaque on Tuskanac square. Zabludovski’s latest discoveries are connected to the interpretation of lives of two great Croatian poets of the 20th Century: Vladimira Nazor and Ivan Goran Kovacic.
