Campaign for Promotion of Equality for Intellectually Impaired Persons in Macedonia
The National Centre for Support for Intellectually Impaired Persons “PORAKA” (Message), promoted yesterday, May 8, promoted the national campaign to promote the equality of intellectually impaired persons in Macedonia. The Campaign is a part of the European “2007 – Year of Equal Opportunities for All” campaign.
The Platform of European “2007 – Year of Equal Opportunities for All” campaign has three goals:
1. to make citizens of Europe more aware of their rights, the right to non-discrimination and equal treatment;
2. to promote equal opportunities and treatment in society for all, through access to education, employment, healthcare and dignified life in the community;
3. to promote the benefits of acceptance of diversity in a democratic society.
Under the European Campaing, “PORAKA” starts its own national campaign under the motto “TO EQUALITY THROUGH DIVERSITY”.
The campaign is dedicated to the general public, the intellectually impaired persons and their families, but with special focus and emphasis on institutions that create policies and implement legislation on national and local levels. The Campaign promotional material includes a poster, leaflets and a documentary film.
The creative strategy of the campaign is based on the European Commission’s four principle concept for approach to promotion: RIGHTS, REPRESENTATION, RECOGNITION AND RESPECT.
The campaign is supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. “PORAKA” also invited the media to join and support the campaign, thus contributing to successful changes and acceptance of intellectually impaired persons as equal citizens in our society.
