Gallup Europe: SEE Citizens Pessimistic

According to the latest poll conducted by Gallup Europe, on citizens positions about the integration processes, the internal problems of their respective countries and the relations with the neighbours, the majority’s outlook of the future is rather pessimistic.
The poll, conducted in Albania, Serbia, Croatia, B&H, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Kosovo and Turkey, shows that citizens of SEE believe that the EU membership would dramatically improve the situation. The greatest pessimists in the Western Balkans are the Kosovar Albanians, 73 percent of whom believe that the life outside Kosovo would be much better. Similar views are shared in Macedonia (67 percent), Serbia and Montenegro (at 52 percent each). The Bulgarians, who already are in EU and Croatians are most positive about the life in their countries, with 35 and 38 percent, respectively. In terms of their attitudes towards EU membership, the most inclined towards EU are the Albanians, with Croatian citizens remaining the most Euro-skeptic. The citizens of Serbia are the biggest advocates of EU membership, with 70 percent support for the country’s integration in the European Union. |
