MANS to Watch Privatization Closely

The Network for Affirmation of NGO Sector (MANS) will pay close attention to this year’s Government plan for privatization, especially of the companies that may have greatest impact on the future development of Montenegro.

Vanja Calovic, MANS Executive Director says that the organization will continue to monitor the situation with companies like the Pljevlje Thermoelectric Power Plant or Port of Bar.

“Our priority is to make the institutions of the system to publish the information, so that we would be able to see what we sold, what obligations we accept, what the buyers have to do, so that we could know if the privatization is good or bad and if their are in the best interest of the public”, says Calovic to Radio Free Europe.

MANS, in her words, currently tries to secure the basic information about the privatized enterprises. It faces lots of problems, having in mind the treatment of information related to privatization, which are kept more secret and with greater care than the data owned by the National Security Agency.

“That is shocking”, says Calovic. “We can easily get information from the Police, for instance, but we can hardly get out a single paper from the Agency for Restructuring of the Economy and Foreign Investments”.
