One Step Closer to the Law on Volunteering

Under the “Building Fair Structures in B&H” project, and in cooperation with the Commission for Coordination of Youth Issues of the B&H Council of Ministers, OKC Banja Luka organized the presentation “One Step Closer to the Law on Volunteering”.

The presentation aimed to introduce NGO representatives to the initiative for adoption of a national Law on Volunteering, initiated by the Coordination Commission, and to inform them about good practices and existing volunteering programmes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A number of youth organizations’ representatives took part in the presentation and adopted several important conclusions.

OKC Banja Luka will prepare and initiate a National Conference on Volunteering, and submit the proposal to Nikola Spiric, the President of the Council of Ministers, and the Coordination Commission. The Commission has already had similar ideas, but it would be good if the initiative comes from the nongovernmental sector.

The Conference should result in an establishment of a working group charged with the task to draft the text of the Law on Volunteering. Having in mind that there is already an initiative for such a law in Republic of Srpska, the two processes should proceed in parallel, to avoid the mixing of competences, but also to establish as system of exchange of information.
