Crnic: Law on Legal Assistance Should be Pulled Out of Procedure

The Human Rights Centre, after the public debate on the Governments proposal for a Law on the Right to Free Legal Assistance, recommended the Govenrnment to review, once again, all the remarks and criticism against the draft presented by legal experts, nongovernmental associations and trade unions.

The retired former President of the Constitutional Court Jadranko Crnić estimates that the public debate truly presented all the tragedy of the draft, and said that an appeal should be made to the Government to pull it out of procedure.

The draft that Croatia is about to adopt should enter into force in 2010. The Government is accused of adopting a far from perfected legal text, in collision with other laws, therefore, rather confusing and contradictory, explains Alan Uzelac, Law Professor and formerly member of the working group charged with the preparation of the Law.
