Education in Tolerance and Non-Violent Communication for High School Students

On the occasion of the First International Non-Violence Day, October 2, the Nis branch of AIESEC student organization starts the implementation of the “Violence Around Me” project to education the high school student population on tolerance and non-violent communication.

The project is based on a series of workshops which will be led by the members of the organizing team of high school students that participated in the last year’s project, and foreign students.

“The main goal of the project is to give the youth the chance to present their views and opinions on the given topic, to hear experiences of the people coming from abroad and to realize the evil that violence brings with itself. The workshops will give the participants an opportunity to learn more about conflict prevention and non-violent communication”, reports AIESEC.

Yesterday, October 2, was the first celebration of the UN International Non-Violence Day, during which messages of peace, tolerance, non-violence and understanding will be sent around the world.

The UN General Assembly declared the International Non-Violence Day, October 2, with its Resolution A/RES/61/271 of June 15 of this year. October 2 was the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, and the date was chosen to honour and celebrated the achievements of the leader of India’s independence movement and pioneer of non-violent resistance to tyranny.
