MOST Presents Results from the Monitoring of the Sobranie

The Civic Association MOST, under the auspices of the first stage of the “My Representative” project, presented the results of the monitoring of the work of the Sobranie of Macedonia in the period from February to August 2007.
According to the results, only 11 MPs, less then ten percent of the total number of representatives, participate in all 117 sessions. Five of them never ever asked for the floor or uttered a single word in parliamentary debates. According to the survey conducted by MOST “Societas Civilis” Institute for Democracy, on representatives sample of 1,118 persons, the Parliamentary Channel on the Public Broadcasting Service is followed daily by 18 percent of the polled, with additional 16 percent that tune in once or twice per week. Just 4.1 percent of the polled believe that the Sobranie has earned the highest grades for its work. The plurality of polled, 29.2 percent, graded it with a 3, on the scale from 1 to 5. According to 27,7 percent, the Sobranie should have flunked, giving it the lowest grade of 1. - MOST and the Sobranie have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the implementation of this project.
