Chance for Croatia to Contribute to World Peace
|
The Centre for Peace Studies (CMS) congratulated, in an open letter to the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integrations, the selection of the Republic of Croatia for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“This is truly a great honour and obligation for our country, especially having in mind that the selection of Croatia was supported by 184 countries. After the wartime destruction we went through, this is a chance of us to contribute to stability and peace in the world. We should use this opportunity wisely and honestly”, says the letter, signed by Gordan Bosanac, CMS programme coordinator. CMS believes that this is encouraged by the fact that the general public in Croatia will now be able to move its attention beyond local and regional security challenge and get a wider picture of security challenges in the whole world. “This is of utmost important at the time when Croatia aims to join NATO and EU, and when national political scene and the general public lack proper and sufficient understanding of relationship between NATO and global security challenges”, writes Bosanac. CMS is convinced that Croatia, with her specific contributions, could be recognized as a country that carries peace-building processes and promotes peace-building policies on national and regional levels.
