Regional Seminar for Creation of SEE Network Of GEM Users

The seminar on GEM (Gender Evaluation Methodology), organized by the One World Platform for Southeast Europe OWPSEE, with the support of APC (Association for Progressive Communications) and ZaMirNet, starts tomorrow, October 19, in Sarajevo.

The seminar aims to discuss all matters related to women rights, with a special focus on ICT (Information and Communication technologies) integration into the gender. In addition, OWPSEE wants to try to create a strong SEE community of GEM users, having in mind that evaluation is a very powerful tool, truly relevant for ICT and Gender projects.

Although women increasingly use ICT to strengthen their lobbying, communication and advocacy capacities, gender issues must be used in a politically careful way in order to avoid the risk of reproducing stereotypes and prejudices. This tool can help us all to read project results through the lens of gender and thus enables to make necessary corrections on the way, or to avoid repeating projects which had a negative impact.

The innovative aspect of GEM is that it has created a network of GEM users who exchange their experiences, practices and analyses, making it a tool in constant evolution which is changed from the bottom up.

The seminar ends on October 21.
