Awards for Reporting on Roma Health Issues Presented

The Open Society Institute(OSI) from New York and Media Centre Belgrade presented last Tuesday, October 23, 2007, the awards for best reporting on Roma health issues.

The jury, made of Jadranka Stojanović (OSI), Dubravka Šaranović Racić (Minnistry of Health) and Đorđe Vlajić from NUNS (Association of Independent Journalists), decided on three works, among the 19 applications, that in its view stand out for their quality and professional approach.

The Award will be shared by Ana Manojlović, Radija 202, for her story Health on Tap, Marina Stanković from RTS, for TV story Life on the Cemetery, and Momir Turudić, from Vreme weekly, for his article Living under one’s own name.

- All three stories, nauseating and difficult in their contents and the problems they cover, deserved to be rewarded. All three work deserve similar praise – professional approach, maturity, quality, effect, the humane tone in the treatment of health problems faced by Roma in Serbia, says the Jury in the explanatory notes.

The Jury also expressed its satisfaction with the fact that all three works come from different media – television, radio and weekly magazine.
