11th Session of the Igman Initaitive Held in Belgrade
The representatives of the Igman Initiative, a movement gathering over 100 NGOs in the region, concluded at the 11th Session of the movement held last Sunday in Belgrade, that the region still lacks the proper levels of stability and that more considerate and reserved statements and better understanding of key problems can help overcoming the consequences of the war and renew the trust.
The involvement of international political figures or Serbian politicians can’t help solve the crisis, says Živorad Kovačević, President of the European Movement in Serbia. He noted that the responsible officials and media in the countries of the region should stay away from strong words and escalation of disputes that need to be solved through diplomacy. The Initiative called on B&H politicians to take the responsibility to stabilize the political situation in the country and the transformation of Bosnia and Herzegovina into a democratic state. Its members also emphasized that they expected from the other countries in the region to contribute to normalized relations in the region, and in particular to respect the territorial and political sovereignty of B&H. The presidents of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia didn’t take part in the session, after Serbian President Tadic cancelled his presence because of recent statement by President of B&H Presidency Zeljko Komsic, which “insulted” Serbian Prime Minister Kostunica. Komsic, after Kostunica said that High Representative Lajcak’s measures were aimed to secure Kosovo’s independence and elimination of the Republic of Srpska, sent a message to Kostunica to “keep his hands away from Bosnia and Herzegovina, for he may get a slap over the fingers”. |
