Open Door: Training for High School Students

Under the auspices of its programme for prevention and education on trafficking in human beings, Open Door-La Strada held a training programme for high school students on Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings, November 16-18, in Skopje.

Students from Bitola and Skopje, between 15 and 18 years of age, participated in the training, most of them members of the Roma community.

The training aimed to introduce the participants with the problem of human trafficking, the situation in Macedonia. Also the students were to learn how to protect themselves and share information with their peers. It also put an emphasis on the creation of a plan for implementation of activities designed to raise the students` awareness about the problem, in order to stimulate their participation in preventive activities.

The working sessions offered a definition of the problem of human trafficking and the manner in which it violates basic human rights. During the training, the participants were introduced to different types and methods of human trafficking, especially trafficking of women and children.

After the end of the training, the students will be obligated to share their newly acquired knowledge with their peers, with the goal to raise their awareness about the problem. Also, the trained students will organize activities on the topic of human trafficking in their own schools.
