December 5th – International Volunteer Day
To mark this year’s International Volunteer Day - December 5th, UN, Bosanska Zajednica and SEEYN are organizing in an NGO Volunteer Fair and a concert by the band Earth, Wheel, Sky. International Volunteer Day aims to raise awareness about volunteerism and highlight its contribution to social inclusion and development.
The NGO Volunteer Fair will take place in on December 5th at the Center for Children and Youth of Novo Sarajevo and is envisioned as a means for promoting volunteerism within the Balkan region and abroad, raising awareness of the volunteer opportunities available to young people, and highlighting the importance of volunteering in Bosnian society. More than 100 NGOs from the entire country are invited to present their activities and volunteer opportunities to the public and to network with other organizations. The NGO Volunteer Fair will be opened by Mr. Stefan Priesner, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. and Mr. Mirsad Čatić, Director of the International Center for Children and Youth, Novo Sarajevo. The fair will start at 2 pm and conclude at 8 pm.
In the evening Vince Olah and the Earth, Wheel, Sky band from Novi Sad will delight Sarajevo with their inaugural public concert. A world-renown band dedicated to re-imagining the stereotypes of Roma, they have toured France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Holland, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia. The concert will start at 9pm at the SA Club, Kranjčevićeva bb.
All activities held as part of the International Volunteer Day 2007 are free of charge.

The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/RES/40/212 on 17 December 1985. Since then, governments, the UN system and civil society organizations have successfully joined volunteers around the world to celebrate the Day on 5 December. IVD offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions - at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
