Life in the Shadows – Survey on Domestic Violence promoted

The Association for Emancipation, Solidarity and Equality of Women in Macedonia – ESE published the findings of its survey on domestic violence Life in the Shadows. The study is made of two parts, with findings on the nature, scope and types of domestic violence and the institutions’ approach to this problem.

According to the survey, almost a half of all women in Macedonia suffer from psychological violence, manifested through the insistence of their husbands/partners to report where they are at any given time, insult them, get mad if they speak to other men, intimidate them and prevents them from work out of the home.

The survey is a part of the National Domestic Violence Programme, implemented by ESE in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. The project is financed by USAID, though the Civil Society Strengthening Project, implemented by the Institute of Sustainable Communities.
