Scholarships for Roma Secondary School Student

The Vojvodina Executive Council earmarked 2.1 million Dinars in scholarships for 355 Roma secondary school students who will received 48 EUR months for the 10 months of the school year. The Council also secured honoraria for the 98 tutors selected to assist and direct the education of the scholarship recipients.

The Executive Council also reviewed the information of the Provincial Secretariat of Education and Culture on the enrolment of students in first years of elementary and secondary schools in Vojvodina.

According to the report, a total of 19,230 students (4.9 percent more than in 2006) enrolled in the first year elementary school. Of that total, 1,856 students will follow the classes in Hungarian language, 390 in Slovakian, 147 in Romanian, 59 in Rusin, and 33 students in Croatian.

The secondary schools in Vojvodina enrolled 21,043 students in the first year, which is 89 percent of the planned openings.

The Provincial government charged the Secretariat with the task to take into view the needs of the local communities, the labour market and Vojvodina Development Strategy when it prepares the enrolment and admission policies and plan for next academic year.
