Together in Protests

The Coordination of six Trade Union organizations agreed yesterday, in principle, on joint union protests against rising costs of living and deteriorating standards of living of Croatian citizens. The decision has to be confirmed by the leadership of the biggest trade union, Union of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH).

Having in mind the fact that the daily increases of prices of bear necessities add further burden on the standards of living, union leaders concluded that they need to join forces and approach the executive branch and employers together and to organize protest activities.

The President of the Croatian Trade Union Association, Ozren Matijasevic, said that SSSH should adopt a position on the proposed protest at the session of its Council scheduled for January 15. If SSSH’s response is positive, the Coordination will set up a working group charged to prepare the protest activities.

The trade unions will demand from the Government to adopt measures to prevent further deterioration of living standards and from the employers to increase the wages proportional to higher costs of living.

The meeting also concluded that trade unions will join forces to delegate representatives in the Working Group for negotiations with EU related to Chapter 19, covering social policies and labour issues.
