FOSIM Opposes Proposed Changes in Election Code

The Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia says the Draft Law on Changes and Amendments to the Election Code, proposed by MP Vlatko Vlatko Gjorčev, exhibits a series of weaknesses and is a step towards renewed partization of Election Boards.

Gjorčev proposes for the Boards to be made of two members and deputies from the ranks of employees of public state, municipal and the administration of the City of Skopje, which means annulment of the successful reforms in the Election Code that established a fully professional electoral administration.

- The solution to secure participation of civil servants into the Election Boards reduced the influence of political parties, confirming Macedonian dedication to the European ways, says FOSIM.

The Foundation reminds that it provided financial support to the State Election Commission in the education of professional electoral administration before the Parliamentary Elections and finds the proposed legal changes in collision with the current policies adopted by the country.
