TM: Government Cares About Perception, Not Changes

Last year was marked in Macedonia by dynamic anti-corruption and crime policies applied by the Government, meeting approval by the public, but also some qualified criticism, says Transparency Macedonia in the Annual Report on Situation the Fight Against Corruption in 2007.

Although it did suppot, on many occasions, the intensified activities of competent bodies and institutions, Transparency Macedonia did point out at the selective approach, the pressure on the institutions, especially the judiciary and the Police, as well as the unacceptable volume of media and political abuses and manipulation.

- There is the prevailing impression that the strategy is politically motivated and directed to change the public perception, rather than contribute to essential changes and long-term strategy, says the Report.

According to TM, the strategies directed at domination of institutions charged with the control over spending of public funds causes political and systemic damages and harm to the fight against corruption and organized crime.
