Initiative Wants Night Trams in Sarajevo

Radio 202 started an initiative to introduce night busses and trams in Sarajevo and will organize, on Saturday, February 9, petition signing in front of the Sarajevo Cathedral.

There was an earlier initiative, back in 2003, started by Sarajevo\'s Conscientious Objection Campaign, but the authorities and the public transportation enterprise GRAS responded that electricity is too expensive to let the trams and trolley cars online all night. They also noted the matter of security for bus drivers, since they were targets of a series of attacks, especially at night.

„We believe it is the highest time for Sarajevo to finally get what is common practice in European cities. If GRAS and Cantonal Ministry of Transport prove incapable to meet this demand, then we can freely say that those institutions are interested solely in increase prices of bus tickets and procurement of old vehicles“, says Radio 202.

The Radio 202 adds that the official request will be submitted immediatelly after the signing of petition and invites the citizens to come in great numbers and do themselves a big favour.

The initiative is organized in cooperation and with support by Zašto ne? (Why Not?) civic association, the Food not Bombs Collective and Equipa activist group.
