Petition Against Religious Education in Sarajevo Kindergartens
|
Vedrana Pinjo Neuschul, parent of two children that go to kindergarten ran by Public Institution Djeca Sarajeva (Children of Sarajevo), started a Petition against the introduction of religious education in kindergartens in Sarajevo and religious segregation of kindergarten children.
The Petition states that, contrary to the Constitutional definition of Bosnia and Herzegovina as secular state, PI Djeca Sarajeva conducted a quiet poll among some parents in January 2008, asking them if they would want their children to get religious education. Pinjo Neuschul notes that PI Djeca Sarajeva is financed both from the fee paid by the parents (140 KM monthly) and is co-financed by the Budget of the Canton of Sarajevo, with tax-payers money. - As a parent of two children that go to kindergarten, I feel obligated to fight for their rights, including the right of choice, as well as the right to get my opinion heard. I ask you, if you are opposed to introduction of religious education of any confession in the kindergartens, to sign the petition. The goal is to collect as many votes as possible and demonstrate that our children are all same and that faith and religion are private matters taught at religios, not public institutions, says the Petition.
