Consumer Boycott Yields First Results
On the third day of consumer boycott, there are visible results, at least in terms of frequency of visitors at bigger stores in Zagreb. The parking lots are empty and there are just a couple of people at the cash-registers.
In spite of the fact that only the retailers themselves can give some data on the results of the boycott, the President of Croatian Consumer Association Vesna Brčić-Stipčević says that polls conducted on the street show that 95 percent of them know about the boycott.
- It is important for the citizens, during the boycott campaign, to think what it is they really need to buy, and to start acting united, warns Brčić-Stipčević, adding that the citizens are not all that convinced that the prices will fall.
The mass nature of the boycott can be deducted, however, from the fact that several food-store chains announced price-cuts, although the Consumer Association warns that the announcement can’t be seen exclusively as result of the success of the boycott.
