Roma Discriminated by Healthcare System

The “Luludi” Roma Association of Women and Youth promoted the latest reports prepared under the project for Monitoring of Activities in Healthcare Sector, which aims to improve significantly the healthcare situation of Roma in the Republic of Macedonia and to secure them practical implementation of their Constitutional right to universal healthcare.

- The Report aims to determine if, and to what extent, does the Roma population uses its right to healthcare and health insurance, says Kimet Amet, Luludi President.

A poll was conducted in Suto Orizari borough in Skopje, asking the citizens if they had health insurance. Eighty percent of the polled said that they had no health insurance, listing as main reasons lack of personal documents and finances, as well as not knowing the proper procedures.

The Report was prepared with the support from the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia.
