Vojin Dimitrijevic Wins Najevropljanin Award for Political Engagement

The European House, in cooperation with the European Movement in Serbia and the EC Delegation to Serbia, presented the Najevropljanin (Most European) Awards for contributions in the process of connecting Serbia with Europe.

University Professor Vojin Dimitrijević was named Najevropljanin for 2007 for his political engagement, while the Igman Initiative was declared the most European project.

Hans Ola Urstad, Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia was named for best foreign contribution, the award in culture and education went to the founder of the private Megatrend University, Mića Jovanović, and the award for economy went to Dušan Antonić from Agrobanka.

Dimitrijević, accepting the award, said that he feels like back in the days when European Movement in Serbia was founded, in 1992, since, he says, it takes a doze of personal courage to be European today, too.

Živorad Kovačević, EMinS President, explaining the decision to award Dimitrijevic, said that he never locked himself in the lonely tower of science, but got politically engaged when it was most necessary and fought for clean hands democracy and European path for Serbia.

Speaking about the Igman Initiative, former EMinS President Mirko Tepavac said that the Initiative deserved the award from its very beginning.

- The Initiative was born in the dark times of 1995 and to this date, contributed to elimination of visa regimes between Serbia, Croatia, adn Montenegro, creation of free trade zone and a number of bilateral agreements, emphasized Tepavac.
