Civil: Call for Support and Partnership

Civil invites NGOs, individuals, informal groups, journalists, artists, central and local governmental representatives and institutions in Macedonia to give voice to the global efforts for overcoming gun violence and arms control and support the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, June 2-9.

Civil joined the global initiative of the International Action Network on Small Arms (www.iansa.org) in 2003. The Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence highlights the international campaign to stop the proliferation and misuse of small arms.

Civil and partner organizations conduct a dynamic and successful one week campaign each year. Funds required for implementation of this activity are raised from international organizations and donors present in Macedonia. Every year, Civil establishes partnership and cooperation with other NGOs, state or local institutions, and gets excellent support from media.

This year, Civil will conduct a nationwide campaign to correspond with IANSA’s global initiative and will take the opportunity to introduce a long term strategy of new approaches towards issues involving gun violence, arms control, safety and security, human rights and peace initiatives in the country and the region.

The Global Week of Action will be followed by the Biennial Meeting of States (BMS) on the Implementation of the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms: 14-18 July 2008, an important event for countries across the world in the process of strengthening arms control globally and locally.

For more information on the Call and the planned programme of activities, see the document attached to this article.
