Gradjanska Vojvodina Demands Investigation of Chauvinist Excesses in Sombor

The NGO Initiative \"Građanska Vojvodina\" (Civic Vojvodina) demands from the competent authorities to start investigation of the actions of a group of citizens of Sombor who have distributed free bread in front of bakeries owned by Albanians living in Sombor.

Građanska Vojvodina notes that the citizens, who claim they were not affiliated to any political organization, also distributed leaflets with chauvinist messages, inviting the citizens not to buy bread from Sombor’s Albanian bakers.

The initiative reminds the authorities that bakeries owned by Albanians were target of number of attacks, their windows were broken and their walls were defiled with insulting graffiti.

- All victims of chauvinist attacks in Sombor are citizens of Serbia. They pay their taxes, employ Serbian citizens, were born and have lived in Sombor and Vojvodina for decades, notes the initiative.

Građanska Vojvodina demanded urgent action by the authorities to send a clear message that the state will not use the declaration of independence of Kosovo to deal with its national minorities, civil sector representatives, and all those who not share its views.

The initiative also demands from the competent inspectorates to answer how is it possible for somebody to distribute food in the street, without permission and failing to observe the elementary hygiene requirements.
