Report on Implementation of Roma Decade in Macedonia
A report prepared by RNGO Roma 2002 will show if Macedonia will again be placed in the lower ranks of countries in terms of implementation of the Roma Inclusion Decade, or if the country has made progress into the ranks of the countries that pay more attention to these policies.
The Roma Decade is a regional policy implemented in nine countries in the region. In the 2006 Progress Report listed Macedonia in the seventh place in terms of its implementation.
The 2007 Report, expected by the end of this month, will again assess the progress that Macedonia made and compare it with the other countries, and should focus on its contributions to the Decade, in terms of institutional and financial resources and national policies.
The the end of 2008, Roma 2002 will try to design a methodology for monitoring of the progress that will enable for a more accurate assessment of status of Roma, which will apply to the data collected for 2008 and the remaining years of the Decade.
Unofficially, the organization hints that Macedonia has, indeed, made certain progress in the implementation of the Roma Inclusion Decade, compared to 2006.
The monitoring is, once again, supported by the Office of Roma Initiatives of the Open Society Institute in Budapest, under the DecadeWatch initiative that includes organizations from all nine countries participating in the policy initiative.
