Sarajevo Protest Demands Announced

The informal group of citizens of Sarajevo that has protected, in cooperation with a number of NGOs, for over a month now against, as they say, incompetent municipal and cantonal authorities and deteriorating security situation in Sarajevo, announced its demands in public.

The document they prepared (attached to this article) lists among the demands the request to Prime Minister of Canton of Sarajevo Samir Silajdzic and Mayor Semiha Borovac to resign irrevocably from their offices.

The protesters believe that Prime minister Silajdžić has to step down becuase of his inefficincy and the insults and verbal abuse he laid on the citizens that took part in the protests.

- People that took to the streets to save the last ounces of their civic dignity are not, and will not be a mob, protesters say, adding that Mayor Borovac should also leave office for her lack of integrity, credibility and moral responsibility for the situation in the city.

The citizens also demand urgent measures to improve the security situation in Sarajevo, through urgent legislation, stricter penal policies against offenders, especially those who are found carrying illegal weapons, and better education of prosecutors who, they say, are not up to the taks.

The demands also include a request for establishment of system of civic control in order to secure transparent and responsible government and to secure better future for the children and youth of Sarajevo.

The document also offers a petition demanding resignations to be signed.
