2008 Week of Women Artists in BIH

Marking this March as the Women History Month, the CURE Foundation organizes the 2008 Week of Women Artists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a series of events in the period March 25-31, 2008. The Week of Women Artists incorporates two global initiatives – Support Women Artists Now Day (SWAN) and the V-Day.

SWAN is an innovative platform offering an opportunity to artists and the audience to engage in a dialogue about the role of women in culture. Through its services and resources, SWAN currently gathers a community of over half a million women artists, curators and cultural workers across the world and secured over four million USD in grants for artists over the past five years.

V-Day is a global movement to prevent violence agains women and girls. Since 1998, V-Day has raised over 50 million US Dollars for local groups working on prevention of violence.

The first SWAN International Women Artists Day will be marked on Saturday, March 29, from New York, to Ghana, Armenia, Berlin and Sarajevo.

The BIH SWAN initiative is organized in Sarajevo, with a number of exhibition, concerts, theatrical plays, video art presentation, films, poetry readings, promotion of BIH Cultural Budget, local women artists and much more. SWAN aims to direct the public attention to contribution and achievements of women in culture. The bulk of events will take place at the MAK Gallery, while the V-Day performance will take place on March 30, at the Bosnian Cultural Centre (BKC).

The 2008 Week of Women Artists will close with a performance of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler.
The events were organized in cooperation with Zagreb`s Centre for Women Studies and Anti-Trafficking Centre from Belgrade. For additional information about V-Day, write to danijela@fondacijacure.org or visit the website of CURE Foundation to see the programme of events.
