Campaign to Find Home for AKC

The campaign of the exiled Alternative Cultural Centre AKC to find a suitable space for alternative was initiated with the aim to gather open-minded people who agree that it is important to locate space in the city of Niš that will be given to the youth to use it freely.
The Campaign was launched after last week`s attack by organized group of skinheads on the Alternative Cultural Centre, which resulted in termination of the lease on the said premises by the owner. Since it was established in December 2007, AKC was target of several attacks by clero-nationalist groups and individuals and members of the skinheads movement, although it was created to avoid such attacks on its users and provide safe haven for all the people with affirmative ideas. The current situation of daily pressure by the skinheads and the uncertainties related to premises for its regular activities has caused the cancellation of a number of planned and scheduled events. AKC`s campaign aims to motivate the citizens of Niš to try and locate such premises that would be beneficial to affirmative and alternative ideas and cultural events, proving they have their rightful place in the city. |
