NGOs Praise the Signing of SAA

Serbian NGOs supported the Stabilisation and Association Agreement signed on April 29, in Luxemburg, by Vice-President of the Government of Serbia Božidar Đelić and Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, on behalf of EU.

The European Movement in Serbia expressed its satisfaction over the signing of the SAA.

- The signing of the Agreement is hugely encouraging for those who have fought for years for the European future for Serbia, promoting European values, heritage and standards, says EMINS in a public statement.

The European Movement adds that the full membership in the EU remains the key priority for Serbia, demanding immediate fulfilment of remaining obligations, primarily the full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and continuation of started reforms.

- It is important to involve representatives of all social groups and engage in comprehensive civil dialogue in the coming stages of Serbian accession process, in order to make that process open, transparent and efficient, says EMINS.

The signing was greeted by the Civic Initiatives organization, who put emphasis on the fact that the signing of SAA was the expected, concrete move by the EU to show clearly that the European Union wants Serbia to become a full member.

- This is an important message of encouragement for the citizens of Serbia who now can think about their future differently, says Miljenko Dereta, Civic Initiatives President, adding that the future Skupština (Parliament) and Government of Serbia should not give in to pressure of false patriots and should ratify the Agreement, jump-starting the stalled reforms and contribute to better life for all citizens of Serbia.
