Peace Caravan 2008

The `Objection for Peace` Regional Network organizes the 4th Peace Caravan, which will start May 10, in Sarajevo and will conclude in Skopje on May 19, 2008. This year, the Caravan aims to show that there are young people all over the region that share common values and want better future for all of us, willing to fight all forms and manifestations of militarism and prevent all future wars.

The `Peace Caravan` was initiated in 2005, as an activity designed to contribute to achievement of lasting peace in the war-torn region. It aims to promote ideas like conscientious objection, demilitarisation, anti-fascism, non-violence and culture of peace.

This year`s Caravan will focus on the problem of militarisation of society and the need to demilitarize it. The questions is askes are whether the end of war means an end for the need for militarized society? Does reduced quantities of arms and armed forces means true demilitarisation? How much are we, in our daily lives, burdened by the problem of militarisation?

The continuing fight for pacifist values and against militarisation manifests itself through the struggle for human and labour rights, anti-fascism, anti-nationalism, better judiciary, and all other forms of civic action directed against all forms of violence in society.

This year`s campaign will visit:
May 10–11 – Sarajevo (BiH);
May 13 – Prijedor (BiH)
May 15 – Pančevo (SR) – International Day of Conscientious Objectors
May 17 – Zaječar (SR)
May 19 – Skopje (MK)
