Megjasi: Political Parties Should Leave Children out of Election Campaigns
|
The First Children Embassy in the World – Megjasi, invoking Article 92 of the Law on Protection of Children, demands from political parties to protect the children from abuses to gain political goals in election campaigns.
- In past elections, we have seen children in the rallies of political parties, in their campaign headquarters, advertisements or themselves turned into walking ad-boards dressed in t-shirts with political slogals or portraits of political party leaders, says Megjaši, adding that children were often engaged in distribution of political propaganda materials. Megjasi reminds that the responsibility lies with the political parties and the parents who often take their children to political party rallies, threatening their safety and security. The organization invites the media to refuse to broadcast paid political advertisement which include abuse of children for political goals, quoting the Convention on the Rights of Children, Articles 3 and 36, that advertising can`t carry messages that violate the best interests of the children. Megjasi expects from all political parties to offer guarantees that they will observe the Convention on the Rights of Children and will take the necessary efforts to prevent the violation of children`s rights. |
