Jedinstvo Initiative: What Use of Bandic`s Signature?
Youth and independent culture associations from Zagreb, united in the Initiative for Jedinstvo demands, in an open letter addressed to Mayor Milan Bandić, to act on the obligation the City of Zagreb to refurbish and equip the complex of former industrial facilities `Jedinstvo` and define a proper management model.

Bandić accepted the obligation, on the behalf of his party and the City of Zagreb, in May 2005, on the eve of the Local Elections, when he put his signature on the Independent Culture and Youth in the Development of the City of Zagreb Declaration.
Associations claim that in the three years since the signing of the Declaration, and in spite of the publicly accepted obligations, the City authorities did nothing to improve the status of independent culture and youth in Zagreb, and that the Declaration is little more than bunch of words put on paper.
-The negligence of the administration has lead, among other things, to the closing of the Močvara Club, in important location for urban culture in Zagreb and gathering place for the youth of the city, accuse the association, adding that Bandić, in spite of numerous warnings, ignored all attempts for communication.
The issue of governance of the facilities remains open and the City has not invested a single penny to refurbish it.
-For as long as the big hall was a decrepit industrial production line, totally useless for any purpose, whatsoever, the City of Zagreb had no interest in Jedinstvo. However, once the location was reconstructed, the interest has grown immensely and the Mayor started solving it in a manner so typical of his approach. Contrary to the Declaration he signed, he decided to offer the facility in a public competition to the bidder with the `best programme`, adds the letter.
The signatories of the letter believe that Jedinstvo factory should be available for diverse programmes of as many independent culture and youth organisations, with clearly defined model of governance set up in advance.
-Without such a model, the intended public competition will take Jedinstvo in the hands of a single user, rendering it off limits for all others, conclude the associations.
