International Aid in the Balkans

We all know how important foreign aid has been for the Balkans over the past years of long and difficult transition. A variety of international governmental and non-governmental organizations, individual governments and foundation have been seemingly pouring money into the economic and democratic development of the region.
Risto Karajkov, postgraduate student of international development at the University of Bologna, Italy, has extensive experience in the field of implementation of foreign aid. In a series of articles, originally written for Osservatorio sui Balcani, Karajkov dissects the issue, pointing out at the positive and negative aspects of foreign aid as experienced in the Balkans.
